What I Noticed: Tree Hole

“Legend has it that a hole in a tree means the spirit world and unseen forces are nearby, protecting you from harm. You’re deeply loved and watched over by your guardian angels.”

WHAT I NOTICED…

I decided to try a new trail in an effort to lose this baby weight (he’s 3 now! 🤡😅) and was greeted by this beautiful tree with a hole. Instantly I felt like this had to mean something since you don’t see it that often. I know a few folklores about trees, especially ones that greet you as you enter a forest, but couldn’t remember what the hole could mean but I pulled my phone out to capture the moment so I could research it later.

When I got to the end of the trail, there was an older lady unsure if she should go. She stopped and asked if I thought it was safe and gave her reassurance she was seeking. We spoke for a moment before we set off on our different ways.

I saw her later at a different end of the park and asked how she thought the trail was. She was shocked at how beautiful and peaceful it was but that it was scary in some parts because you were SO alone but was glad she saw me and decided to give it a shot.

FOLKLORE & SYMBOLISM…

Holes in trees feel mysterious but maybe it’s because they hint at a hidden side of nature we can’t quite see.

Tree Holes in folklore acknowledge portals for the fae, fairies, guardian angels, and other earth elementals. These little spirits are thought to be protectors of mother nature and Earth.

MY REFLECTION…

When I got home and looked up the symbolism, it gave me goosebumps. The folklore spoke of protection, guardianship, and unseen helpers.

Earlier that day, I had entered the trail feeling cautious myself. By the end of it, I found myself offering reassurance to someone else who needed it.

Maybe that’s how these moments work. We receive comfort when we need it, then pass it along to the next person.

Whether the tree hole was simply a tree hole or something more, it reminded me that we’re often more connected than we realize to nature, to each other, and to the quiet moments that stay with us long after we’ve gone home.

YOUR TURN TO NOTICE…

What about you? Have you spotted any trees or portals in nature? Are there any fae encounters you’d like to share? I’d love to hear them!
